Connect

Engaging in dance, music, yoga, movement, and even playful practices like clowning offers powerful benefits for older adults. These activities support physical health by improving balance, flexibility, and mobility, while also stimulating the brain through rhythm, coordination, and memory. Just as importantly, they foster joy, creativity, and social connection—reducing feelings of isolation and boosting overall mood. Whether it’s moving to music, sharing laughter, or expressing emotion through gentle movement, these experiences help seniors feel energized, connected, and fully alive.

Therapeutic Clown Visits

My clown partner and I move gently throughout the residence, offering warm greetings, playful interactions, and lighthearted moments of connection. Our approach is rooted in kindness, presence, and deep respect for each individual. Every interaction is guided by consent and attentiveness to personal space, emotional safety, and individual boundaries—we always meet residents exactly where they are.

Through subtle humour, music, imagination, and responsive play, we create opportunities for joy, curiosity, and meaningful connection. These visits are not about performance, but about relationship—tuning into each resident’s mood, energy, and needs in the moment. Whether it’s a shared smile, a quiet moment of companionship, or a burst of laughter, each interaction is unique and gently led by the resident.

This work is supported by extensive training and experience in both theatre and applied performance. Erin holds a background in theatre studies from McMaster University, Brock University, and has trained through the International Theatre School Association. She has studied clown and therapeutic performance practices with leading organizations including Red Nose Remedy and Bad Hats Theatre. In addition, she holds Levels 1 and 2 certification in Trauma-Informed Movement Practice, ensuring a sensitive, respectful, and participant-centered approach to all interactions.

Therapeutic clowning has been shown to support emotional well-being, reduce feelings of isolation, and spark memory and engagement. It can be especially meaningful for residents living with dementia or cognitive changes, as it connects through emotion, presence, and play rather than language alone.

Our goal is simple: to bring moments of levity, humanity, and connection into the everyday—offering residents an experience that is uplifting, respectful, and full of heart.

Music and Dance Class

An inclusive, feel-good movement class set to the joyful sounds of the 1950s and 60s. Using simple, repetitive rhythms and easy-to-follow movements, this class is designed for residents of all mobility levels—including those who prefer to remain seated or use wheelchairs. Participants are encouraged to move at their own pace while enjoying music that sparks memories, lifts the spirit, and invites connection.

Each session includes approximately 30–40 minutes of uplifting, accessible movement, thoughtfully guided and adapted in real time to support participants’ energy levels and overall wellness. This is followed by 15–20 minutes of gently facilitated social time, where participants are invited to connect through conversation, shared reflection, and light engagement—creating a warm, supportive space for community and joy.

The class supports physical wellness through gentle range-of-motion exercises, coordination, and circulation, while also nurturing emotional well-being through music, creativity, and shared experience. Whether tapping toes, clapping along, or dancing with full expression, everyone is welcome to participate in a way that feels good to them.

Gentle Chair Yoga and Breath Work

Led by a certified yoga and mindfulness instructor (200-hour Hatha Yoga certification with Heal Evolve Thrive, along with Levels 1 & 2 in Trauma-Informed Movement Practice), this workshop offers a calm, supportive space for residents to reconnect with their bodies and breath. Erin is known for her soothing voice and peaceful presence, helping to create an environment where participants feel safe, relaxed, and gently supported throughout the experience.

This is a fully accessible, chair-based session, with residents comfortably seated around a table for added safety, stability, and ease. The class is thoughtfully designed so that everyone can participate in a way that feels right for them—whether through gentle movement, guided breathwork, soothing music, or simply quiet presence.

Participants are invited to explore light, senior-friendly movements that support mobility, circulation, and relaxation, all at a slow, mindful pace. Breathwork is woven throughout the session to help regulate the nervous system, reduce stress, and promote a sense of calm and grounding. A unique and especially soothing element of this workshop is the inclusion of gentle humming, which can stimulate the vagus nerve, helping to lower heart rate, ease anxiety, and create a comforting sense of internal calm through soft vibration.

Each session includes approximately 30–40 minutes of guided yoga and mindfulness, thoughtfully adapted in real time to support participants’ wellness, energy, and capacity. This is followed by 15–20 minutes of gently facilitated social time, where participants are invited to connect through conversation, reflection, and shared experience in a warm and supportive environment.

Yoga is truly for every age and every body. This workshop honours that belief by meeting residents exactly where they are—offering a peaceful, inclusive experience that supports physical comfort, emotional well-being, and meaningful connection.

Music Circles

A joyful, guided group music experience that invites residents to connect through rhythm, song, and shared creativity. Using simple call-and-response style pieces, participants are gently led through familiar melodies and easy-to-follow musical patterns that encourage engagement without pressure or performance.

Residents are welcome to participate in whatever way feels most comfortable—whether singing along, tapping the beat, using shaker balls and hand-held instruments, or simply listening and enjoying the music in a relaxed, welcoming environment. The focus is on inclusion, expression, and the shared experience of making music together.

Music Circles support cognitive stimulation, memory recall, coordination, and emotional well-being. Familiar songs can spark recognition and storytelling, while rhythm-based activities help promote focus, connection, and a sense of belonging within the group.

Each session includes approximately 30–40 minutes of guided musical engagement, thoughtfully adapted in real time to reflect participants’ energy, wellness, and level of interest. This is followed by 15–20 minutes of gently facilitated social time, where residents are invited to connect through conversation, shared memories, and light interaction inspired by the music—creating a warm, inclusive space for connection and joy.
