ARTS ENRICHMENT FOR RETIREMENT RESIDENCES
Engaging in dance, music, yoga, movement, and even playful practices like clowning offers powerful benefits for older adults. These activities support physical health by improving balance, flexibility, and mobility, while also stimulating the brain through rhythm, coordination, and memory. Just as importantly, they foster joy, creativity, and social connection—reducing feelings of isolation and boosting overall mood. Whether it’s moving to music, sharing laughter, or expressing emotion through gentle movement, these experiences help seniors feel energized, connected, and fully alive.

PERFORMANCE COMPANIES
Big Hearts Little Theatre’s Performance Companies bring together passionate actors and technicians who have been selected through audition to take part in our current productions. Our Junior, Teen, and Adult companies work as ensembles, building strong connections while creating meaningful, high-quality theatre.
Each season features a wide range of productions, including original works, published plays, musicals, one-acts, children’s theatre, and concert-style reviews. From first rehearsal to final performance, participants are immersed in a creative process that challenges, inspires, and celebrates their unique voice.
Led by experienced theatre professionals, our approach is rooted in collaboration, inclusion, and joy—empowering artists to grow in confidence, take creative risks, and share powerful stories with their community.

Our classes emphasize both skill development and personal growth, helping performers strengthen their stage presence, physical awareness, and ability to connect authentically with an audience. Improvisation plays a key role in fostering spontaneity, risk-taking, and teamwork—essential tools for any performer.
Led by experienced theatre professionals, each class is rooted in a safe, inclusive, and non-competitive atmosphere where artists are encouraged to explore, grow, and fully engage in the creative process.
OUR PROGRAM PILLARS
Whether in the classroom, in the rehearsal hall, or on the stage, our program is delivered using the following pillars of theatre education
-
The foundations of artistry lie in creativity, originality, and personal expression, which are honed through exploration and spontaneity. On the other hand, an actor's technique is formed by clarity, intention, and analysis, developed through practice and skill-building. It is crucial to foster both Artistry and Technique holistically, ensuring equal focus on both elements.
-
Artists grow, experiment, and uncover new skills when provided with supportive feedback and clear, focused guidance for their development. Confidence is nurtured through a compassionate, trauma-informed method that is personalized for each actor.
-
We pride ourselves on creating a welcoming atmosphere that embraces mistakes along the creative journey and celebrates each milestone reached. Any rehearsal or training session with BIG HEARTS little theatre begins with a mindful transition into the creative space. Sharing theater with the community allows artists to recognize its profound influence while sharing theatre within the group, fosters connections and a feeling of unity.
-
At BIG HEARTS little theatre, we consistently apply theory in practice. Since drama is a performance art, we offer frequent chances for our actors to showcase and refine their skills in various theatre spaces for diverse audiences.
-
Having a working knowledge of Safe and Responsible Practices is essential for theatre practitioners to sustain a healthy, enduring engagement in theatre. Key aspects of the BIG HEARTS little theatre holistic approach to arts education and training include:
Respectfully establishing and upholding boundaries
Implementing physical and emotional safety practices
Advocating for industry change to systemically oppressive or outdated paradigms
